q̓ic̓əy̓ : the land of the moss
Coast Salish territory, and one of the three teachers of the week.
We gather as guests on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish peoples, the Kwantlen, Katzie, Matsqui, and Semiahmoo Nations, whose relationship to these forests, mountains, and rivers has endured for thousands of years.
In Halkomelem, this place is called q̓ic̓əy̓, the land of the moss. The name tells you most of what you need to know about where you'll be.
Over the week, Indigenous elders and practitioners will share teachings through storytelling, ceremony, music, and (for those who choose) water rituals and a sweat lodge.
These are perspectives on healing, stewardship, and belonging carried through generations. They remind us that we're not separate from the land but part of an interconnected whole, responsible to it and to one another.
A portion of what guests contribute goes to a local Indigenous-led stewardship initiative. More on that closer to the date.
